In February 2005, Searchlight representatives travelled to the Philippines for a ministry trip. After leaving the Philippines, the Searchlight team travelled to Yangon, Myanmar for a short but fruitful visit. The trip had two primary objectives.
The first objective was to meet with our Burmese contact and begin the process of printing the first Burmese edition of "Light for Life". This had already been translated in England by another Burmese Christian who is working on a Master’s Degree in translation, and who had requested that Searchlight begin to make this material available in Myanmar.
The second purpose was to conduct a teaching conference for pastors from all over the country. The conference was held at the Baptist Theological Seminary, which was a result of the work of missionary pioneer Adoniram Judson. There were representatives from over 50 denominations and organizations. Some of the workers from the north had to walk out of the mountains for several days just to attend.

In the first weekend, 3500 Burmese magazines were distributed, with none left over. There is a great need and hunger for Christian material in the local language.
While there, Searchlight was also able to participate in the unique service of naming and dedicating one of our contact's twin daughters. They were also able to get to the outskirts of Yangon, which is actually a showcase city for the oppressive regime, and to see the poverty and difficulty that characterizes the rest of the country.
