India is found in southeast Asia. In terms of geographical land mass, it is the seventh largest nation in the world. In terms of population, India is the second most populated country in the world. 2005 estimates place the population of India at around 1.1 billion people.
The majority, about 80%, of the people follow the Hindu religion. This religion has been around for nearly 5,000 years and contains an almost unimaginable myriad of gods and goddesses. Different gods are seen as good and others are seen as evil. The traditions and idolatry of Hinduism keep much of the Indian population under strict spiritual control.
Only about 2% of the population are Christians. It is Searchlight’s desire to help strengthen and encourage the church in India through literature and teaching. Mike and Anne Barton visited India in 2000 and had a wonderful time of visiting numerous fellowships. God willing, they hope to return in the near future to further develop Searchlight’s activities in this vast and wonderful country.

John Wesley Gummadi, Searchlight's printing coordinator in India, introduces
the first Telugu issue of "Light for Life" to his church in Secunderabad.
In the past few years, Searchlight has been able to provide some literature for India in the Urdu and Nepali languages. But this has been more as an overflow from the work in Pakistan and Nepal. However, recently God supplied the necessary finances to allow "Light for Life" to be published in both the Telugu and Hindi languages.
