From Nigeria
My relationship with Mike and Anne Barton started around 1994 through my twin brother, Samuel Emeruwa, who hinted that his meeting with Mike and Anne Barton in Holland might be followed by their writing to me. It did not take too much time before Mike wrote me, sending some copies of "Light for Life" magazines. The contents confirmed the truth of the word of God and refocused my wife and me.
In 1995 Brother Mike started sending "Light For Life" magazines on a regular basis with some Christian literature books that build Christian character. These magazines and books were initially given out to Christian workers without monitoring and supervision. My relationship with them continued till the year 2000, when Mike came to Jos, Plateau State in Nigeria with Bruce Garrison in which we had some days' retreat (comprising of preaching and teaching). We had useful discussions on how this work will grow.
Mike came back in 2002 with the wife, Anne, to see the progress of the work with their contact persons. The progress of the work encouraged them to establish affiliate relationships with their contact persons, of which my wife and I are one.
In August 2004, Mike and Anne again came back to Nigeria .Their trip this time extended to my location in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. They made a stop over at Calabar (Cross River State) where we have some Searchlight readers. Mike preached on "Masquerading the Gospel". They proceeded the following day to Uyo and had teachings on “The Seduction of Christianity" for two days, with 20 denominations in attendance.
RESULT OF THE RELATIONSHIP: This relationship has metamorphosed into:
(1) Searchlight Readers' Club, in Uyo, with an average number of 45 members from at least 14 denominations in attendance monthly. Presence in each review meeting qualifies one to get the next issue.
(2) The use of the "Light For Life" magazines by the Masters Vessels Ministries' Pastors, for update of the work of the Master.
(3) The use of Searchlight materials by other Christian workers to enhance their growth.
(4) Christian Library at No.3 Efiat Street, Uyo, in which Christians from different denominations borrow these books, then read and return them after two weeks.
(5) Training of Church Workers on monthly basis with at least 20 people from at least six denominations.
(6) Three of the disciples raised have introduced "Light for Life" magazines to Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. They are currently doing foundational work. They need our prayers.
CONCLUSION: We trust the Lord that, with time, the work will stabilize in the south of Nigeria.
Co-labourers,
Allen and Patience Emeruwa
