FOCUS ON AFRICA

Africa as a continent seems to be in a continuous state of tragedy and turmoil. War rages in many countries, the HIV/AIDS epidemic continues to claim thousands of lives, and poverty marches on apace in many nations. Still, in the midst of the many difficulties and trials that the people are facing, the word of God continues to go forth, and the church of Jesus Christ continues to grow. Searchlight has been actively involved in Africa since 1994. "Light for Life" is regularly distributed in English and French to many parts of the continent. One issue has been translated in the Chichewa language for Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique.

Recently we received the following letter from a pastor in Tanzania: "Much greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, hoping that you are doing well in Christ. First of all I want to thank you so much for allowing God to use you through this ministry for His Kingdom. Myself when I read those material [Light for Life] I was touched so much, and I do believer when this material will be in Swahili language, people of East Africa will need them much. Please servants of God, we need this material to reach our people here in East Africa--Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi. May the Lord bless you." In addition to the literature, Searchlight has made ministry trips to Nigeria, Malawi, Mozambique, and Botswana. These trips have involved conferences, teaching in ministry and discipleship schools, humanitarian projects, visiting individual churches, and publishing projects. There are also many possible opportunities in other countries. Invitations have been received to visit the Republic of Guinea, Tanzania, Liberia, and Ethiopia.
"We are a mission minded ministries with the purpose of rescuing the perishing and bringing them into the kingdom of God on this other side of the globe. The Ministries has grown to five local congregations with the total membership of over 500. Our programs include, but not limited to, church planting, missions, discipleship training, counseling, child care, education, caring for the needy, community development, etc.     "As you can certainly imagine, there are mountains of needs in a country coming out of fourteen long years of devastating war such as ours. The purpose of the mail is to explore the possibilities of partnership with Searchlight Ministries for the effective implementation of our programs."                                 --from Liberia Along with Searchlight's direct involvement in Africa, God has allowed us to develop relationships with affiliates who are involved in many aspects of ministry activity in their own countries.
